Meet the Designer
Lloyd Abbott Kirley B.S., M.L.A.

I was raised in a family where design was a common word. My father was
an Architect and my brother was a Landscape Architect. My formal training,
which led to a Masters Degree in 1972, was in Landscape Architecture.
Since then, I have worked mainly with architecture and the design of
custom single family homes.
I am informal by nature and my floor plans, which tend to be open and
free flowing, reflect this informality. Comfortable living spaces, room
to room relationships that promote family interaction and logical internal
and external circulation patterns are all important considerations in
my designs. I have a particular concern for the function of the kitchen
in day to day family life and work to insure that it relates well to
other family gathering areas.
I am a firm believer in the generous
but tasteful use of windows, glass
doors and skylights to promote natural
interior light and to develop interactions
between interior spaces and the outside
landscape. I feel that the landscape and
building site should be critical elements
in the design process and that a structure
should relate logically to its natural
surroundings. Whenever possible, I work
to insure that this relationship is accounted
for and my best designs reflect this intent.
